Welcome to my website.
 Most of my work is concerned with the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts. In particular I have a lot of experience in preparing and advising on contracts for large infrastructure projects and long term arrangements - construction, highways, rail, energy, ports, as well as PFI and PPP. I have lived and worked overseas during my career and I continue to handle international as well as UK domestic work.
My small but, I like to think, select client base includes major companies engaged in engineering and dredging as well as one of the UK's most innovative private power companies which generates its electricity from refuse derived fuel and other renewable sources. I also handle work for smaller firms, preparing shareholder agreements, terms of business and other general commercial documents.
When advising or negotiating I aim to have in mind the commercial interests of the client. When drafting contracts, I aim to use plain English and avoid legalese. Through my consultancy arrangement with Shadbolt & Co LLP and connections with other lawyers I obtain specialist support for my clients from others when appropriate.
I conduct most of my work reviewing, drafting and advising on documentation via email, saving time and cost for my clients.
As for my fees, I believe I offer good value, with rates less than 50% of those charged by my former partners in the City - and no delegation to junior staff, as there aren't any!
I am the co-author of the recently published JCT-Constructing Excellence Contract which was launched on 1st March 2007 at the House of Commons. Legal 500, a Directory of the best Law Firms, notes in its latest edition when dealing with Shadbolt & Co LLP, with whom I am a consultant, that "Giles Dixon's input on devising the innovative new JCT Constructing Excellence Contract is noteworthy". This contract is designed to encourage collaborative wrking and contains a number of innovative features as well as being written in plain English.
I contributed the chapter on international construction to the latest edition of Schmitthoff's Export Trade, published in September 2007.
